Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is a natural therapy that aims to treat aches, pains and injuries to help the body repair and recover. 1. It focuses on treating tense, damaged or knotted muscles and can help manage a number of health conditions, especially those affecting muscles, tendons and bones. The key differences between remedial and regular massage:
Massage goal: address particular pain points vs. promote a whole-body wellbeing.
Technique scope: remedial massage targeted specialties such as effleurage, petrissage, deep strokes, compressions, wringing, picking up and skin rolling.
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is designed to relieve some of the problems that are common during pregnancy. It can relieve stress and reduce swelling in your arms and legs.
Your therapist will avoid deep tissue massage here and instead use light, relaxing and long strokes which help circulation. If you would like your therapist to massage your pregnant belly, this is possible, but it will again be gentle, using long strokes, designed to make you feel comfortable, womanly and at ease.
Swedish/Relaxation Massage
The Swedish massage techniques vary from light to vigorous. Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fibre or with the fibres) and vibration/shaking
Clinical studies have found that Swedish massage can reduce chronic pain, fatigue, joint stiffness, and improve function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.
Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is non-invasive type of bodywork that relieves compression in the bones of the head, sacrum (a triangular bone in the lower back), and spinal column using gentle pressure to relieve the stress and pain caused by compression. It can, as a result, help to treat a number of conditions.
On a surface level, the practitioner works with the bones of the skull and the pelvis. This affects, in turn, the deeper layers of membranes and cerebrospinal fluids in the spinal canal, the brain, and the spinal cord itself. Why is this important?
A pulse through the fluids proceeds through the entire craniosacral system, like a tidal wave, from the sutures in the skull to the spinal cord. Cycling about six to ten times a minute, it causes tiny movements measuring no more than one-or two-sixteenths of an inch. All the components work together to regulate the pressure of these fluids on the brain. When the membranes and lubricating liquids lose their freedom to glide freely, we hurt and symptoms start.
Tul'ix Therapy
This beautiful modality of work is a transmission from the renowned Maya H’Men (Doctor-Priest) Don Elijio Panti of Belize.
This work brings together manual bodywork techniques that encompass the whole body as well as a strong cultural lineage of spiritual (energetic) healing. With a particular focus on aligning the womb and tending to the belly/abdomen.
Foot reflexology
In reflexology, pressure is applied to specific reflex points on the foot. These points correspond to organs and areas of the body. The treatment is said to induce a healing response, even alleviating some ailments.
Reflexology is one of the most popular types of massage. Beyond the feel-good effects of the treatment, the practice and purpose go deeper than the skin and muscles. Kneading the soft fleshy ball of the foot, pulling on the toes, tracing around the heel and pushing deep into the arch are just a few of the movements you’ll experience during treatment.
